About Dr. Boyer

Andrea G. Boyer, M.D. is a board-certified Adult Psychiatrist and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, who has a passion for providing the best outpatient care. Dr. Boyer provides comprehensive diagnostic assessments, medication management, individual and family psychotherapy, and collaborative approaches with other medical specialists and psychotherapists. Her clinical areas of interest include anxiety disorders (including OCD), mood disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disorders, and eating disorders, among others. Dr. Boyer spent a year of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship embedded in an Adolescent Medicine Eating Disorders clinic, where she gained expertise in treating a variety of eating disorders. During Psychiatry residency, she spent several months co-facilitating a psychotherapy group in Exposure and Response Prevention therapy for young adults with OCD. Her particular passion in autism spectrum disorders began with her younger brother who has autism and this interest developed into clinical practice and awareness interests, including participating in a podcast run by patients with autism during her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship.

Dr. Boyer completed her Medical Doctorate from Wake Forest School of Medicine, where she won the Outstanding Medical Student in Scholarship and Character in Psychiatry and served as vice president of the Psychiatry Interest Group. During medical school, she was awarded full travel grants to the NC Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Meeting and delivered an invited presentation at the former. She completed her General Psychiatry Residency at Emory School of Medicine and her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to medical school, Dr. Boyer received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Duke University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa for outstanding academic achievement and Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. Throughout her education, she has published on a variety of topics, including ADHD, psychosis, and mood disorder pharmacology.
